Samuel Meirowitz

Samuel Meirowitz is an accomplished NYC personal injury lawyer, trial attorney and relentless advocate for his clients. He is a member of the “Top 100 Trial Lawyers” and was named a “Rising Star” in 2013 and 2014 by Super Lawyers and a Super Lawyer every year since 2016. In 2013, Mr. Meirowitz obtained what is believed to be the first multi-million dollar asbestos verdict seen in more than two decades in a New York federal court. In the highly contentious matter, Mr. Meirowitz was able to convince the jury to hold a boiler manufacturer responsible for 60 percent of the $3.8 million awarded, despite the defendant’s attempt to escape all blame by pointing fingers at the plaintiff’s employer and the U.S. Navy (in which the plaintiff admirably served from 1966-1970 during the Vietnam conflict). This verdict was upheld by the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

In an earlier group of cases brought before a jury, Mr. Meirowitz convinced reluctant corporations to pay substantial confidential settlement amounts to nine smokers resolving their claims that workplace exposure to the toxic mineral asbestos contributed to each man’s development of lung cancer. Sam is a big believer that: “cases settle when the defendant realizes that the jury is going to hold them responsible for their conduct.

Dedicated to Helping You – in and out of the Courtroom

Mr. Meirowitz takes pride in being one who fights for his clients both in and out of the courtroom. When he isn’t trying cases, Sam has organized and conducted union meetings regarding occupational safety hazards faced by workers and given seminars in rural parts of Canada to raise residents’ awareness of the profound dangers of asbestos (a particularly serious threat in that nation’s hinterlands). Mr. Meirowitz also supports a range of charities: for example, he participated in the 2012 Miles for Mesothelioma run-walk event in South Florida to show solidarity with victims of mesothelioma and to help fund research aimed at finding a more effective treatment or, ideally, a cure.

Prior to co-founding Meirowitz & Wasserberg, Mr. Meirowitz was a senior trial lawyer at a well-known national plaintiff’s firm. Previously, he served the State of New York for four years as a prosecutor in the Bronx District Attorney’s office. During his time there, Mr. Meirowitz handled thousands of cases earning an impressive record of success in trial verdicts. During that period, Mr. Meirowitz also taught law classes as an adjunct professor at City University of New York (Queens) and Interboro Institute.

Mr. Meirowitz began his career as a plaintiff’s attorney at the law firm Anderson Kill and Olick in 2001, where he battled insurance carriers that sought to deny policyholders their rights under the law. As an example of his dedication to his clients, Mr. Meirowitz co-authored an amicus brief that was submitted to and accepted by the United States Supreme Court arguing in favor of punitive damage awards against insurance companies that deny coverage to aggrieved policyholders in bad faith.

Mr. Meirowitz is admitted to practice law in all New York State Courts. He is also admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit as well as the U.S. District Court in the Southern and Eastern Districts of NY. Mr. Meirowitz obtained his Juris Doctors Degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 2001. Before entering law school, he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from State University of New York at Albany.
