Actos is a prescription drug, often used in tandem with insulin, that lowers blood sugar levels in those suffering from Type 2 diabetes. Since it was approved by the Food & Drug Administration in 1999, the drug has been used by millions of people and made billions of dollars for its manufacturer, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company.

However, just a few years after the drug hit the market, problems began to appear. By 2004, the company’s internal studies were revealing that the drug increased the risk of bladder cancer, and doctors were beginning to connect the dots.

By 2015, the FDA had released a warning about the drug’s link to bladder cancer, and Takeda had agreed to pay out billions of dollars in compensation for their defective drug and misleading advertising.

Contacting a New York City Actos lawyer can potentially allow you to recover money for pain and suffering after using a defective drug that you were prescribed.
