Typically throughout the United States of America not everywhere but especially here in New York, the primary remedy when one is injured on the job and the employer is at fault is through workers comp. However here in New York City a firefighter can sue the city directly if they’re injured on the job; could be a slip and fall, could be going into a building where the floor falls out beneath the firefighter and the city may not be the only party responsible for the injury but if, the firefighter can sue the city if the city was negligent and caused the injury.
