What Are Our Clients Saying

Families across Texas trust our mesothelioma attorneys for their dedication, compassion, and results:

“Choosing Sam and Dan to represent us in my father’s Mesothelioma case is one of the best decisions we could of made as a family. Their honesty, integrity and compassion is unsurpassed. After interviewing with other law firms they were a clear and unanimous choice for my family. While no amount of money can compensate us for the loss of our dad, Sam and Dan have fought hard on our behalf which has helped us greatly in caring for our mom and her future needs. I highly recommend Sam and Dan and all the kind, compassionate members of their team.” – Angelo Mignone

“My family retained the services of Meirowitz & Wasserberg after the diagnosis of my father with Mesothelioma. Daniel Wasserberg personally flew several times to meet my father and the rest of the family to explain our rights and a plan to fight for what our family deserved. And fight they did! Daniel and Samuel are tenacious, knowledgeable and fearless attorneys. But they are also compassionate men who never lose sight of families and the suffering of those fighting the disease. We eventually lost my father to this tragic disease, but thanks to work of M & W and their staff, my mother and my family have been taken care of thanks to their expert representation. Do not hesitate to retain these guys! Thanks Daniel & Samuel!” – Marcus Deane

“We are so fortunate that we met Samuel Merowitz. My husband was diagnosed with Mesothelioma four years ago because of asbestos exposure. We met Sam and his coworkers and they took the case with such compassion and dedication. They provided professional, accurate, efficient legal advice and more. Because of them, our lives are much better now. We are so thankful for having them by our side.” – Felicia Marti

I grew up in Los Angeles, in Baldwin Hills, and spent my elementary years there. I ended up in junior high school in Gardena. In junior high, I took art class, where we worked with different mediums—drawing, painting, and ceramics. I did that for a year and a half.

I also went into auto shop when I entered high school. There, we were exposed to asbestos in the brake linings and the dust from the grinding of the brakes.

For me, I was fortunate to be diagnosed early on, and it was purely by chance. I had pain in my back, and they kept saying it might be a kidney stone or that I had lifted something heavy. After a year of pain, my primary care provider suggested, “Let’s get a CAT scan and see what’s going on.” They found a nodule and told me, “You’re fine. You’re young. There’s no way you could possibly have mesothelioma.”

I found a physician on the East Coast, and he ran his own tests. At the end of it, he confirmed I had mesothelioma. He knew my story and the problems I had with medical insurance, and he said, “I really think you’re going to need some compensation because you won’t be able to afford the surgery and treatment.”

Then I called Meirowitz & Wasserberg. They answered immediately, and I spoke with them. Daniel said, “I’ll do my best for you. I’ll treat you like family.” I felt that he was very genuine.

I knew how important it was—she had two young children and a husband. At first, we didn’t know how she had been exposed to asbestos. But we started to figure it out. We went through high school yearbooks and discovered that the students in the shop class at San Pedro High School had been using asbestos in the late ’70s. We filed the case and were able to sue the Los Angeles Unified School District.

LAUSD became the target because we found out that they knew about the hazards of asbestos and allowed students to work with it, which made Kim sick.

We secured $5 million for her because she trusted us. She worked with us, and we poured our heart and soul into the case. It wasn’t only me; I had a whole team of people supporting me.

What differentiates our firm from the competition is that we’re in the sweet spot. Our firm isn’t so large that clients feel like they’re just a number and don’t get personalized attention, but we’re big enough to have the resources to do everything a large firm can. We can hire the best experts, take on the biggest companies, and see a case all the way through trial.

Meirowitz & Wasserberg truly saved my life, emotionally and mentally—not just because of the support I received, but because they secured more than I ever expected. They ensured a future for my children, something I wouldn’t have been able to do. I knew they would be taken care of. They gave me the greatest gift.

Asbestos Exposure Sites in Texas

Texas has one of the highest rates of occupational asbestos exposure in the country. For decades, workers at refineries, shipyards, power plants and military bases handled asbestos-containing materials without adequate protection. Many didn’t know the risks until a mesothelioma diagnosis decades later. Asbestos-related diseases typically develop 20 to 60 years after exposure, which means workers exposed in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s are getting diagnosed today. If you worked at any of the sites below, you may have grounds for a mesothelioma claim.

Houston Ship Channel and Gulf Coast Refineries

The Houston Ship Channel is one of the most significant corridors of asbestos exposure in the country. For decades, shipyard workers, pipefitters and refinery operators worked alongside asbestos insulation, boiler equipment and pipe coverings that released toxic fibers into the air. Many employers knew about the dangers of asbestos but didn’t warn their workers or provide protective equipment. Harris County has one of the highest mesothelioma mortality rates in Texas and thousands of former Houston Ship Channel workers have filed successful claims.

Named facilities include:

  • Brown & Root, Houston
  • ExxonMobil Baytown Refinery, Baytown
  • Halliburton, Houston
  • Pasadena refineries, Pasadena
  • Shell Deer Park, Deer Park
  • Todd Shipyards, Houston

Workers at these facilities include pipefitters, boilermakers, insulators, electricians and maintenance mechanics. If you worked at any Houston Ship Channel facility, our Texas mesothelioma attorneys can help you identify responsible parties and pursue compensation.

Dallas-Fort Worth Industrial Sites

The Dallas-Fort Worth area saw rapid industrial and construction growth from the 1960s through the 1980s. Builders, contractors and plant workers regularly encountered asbestos-containing materials in floor tiles, ceiling tiles, insulation and fireproofing products throughout this period. Dallas County reports among the highest mesothelioma mortality rates in Texas, reflecting decades of widespread asbestos use across the region’s construction and manufacturing sectors.

Named facilities include:

  • DFW construction sites, Dallas and Tarrant counties
  • North Texas power plants, Dallas County
  • W.R. Grace vermiculite processing plant, Dallas

Workers at DFW construction sites, manufacturing plants and processing facilities may have encountered asbestos daily without knowing it. Our attorneys can investigate your exposure history and identify the companies responsible.

Texas Oil Refineries and Petrochemical Plants

Texas has more than 30 refineries that relied heavily on asbestos insulation for decades. These facilities employed pipefitters, boilermakers, insulation workers and chemical plant operators who faced daily asbestos exposure on the job. Refineries in Port Arthur, Beaumont and Corpus Christi ranked among the busiest in the country during the peak years of asbestos use. Workers at these plants handled asbestos pipe coverings, gaskets and insulation blankets that released toxic fibers during installation, maintenance and removal.

Named facilities include:

  • Beaumont petrochemical plants, Beaumont
  • Corpus Christi refineries, Corpus Christi
  • Port Arthur refineries, Port Arthur

Many of the companies responsible for asbestos exposure at these facilities have since declared bankruptcy and established trust funds to compensate workers. Our attorneys rank among the top 10 national filers for asbestos trust fund claims, which means we know how to recover compensation from these funds quickly and efficiently.

Military Installations

Texas is home to several major military installations where service members encountered asbestos in buildings, vehicles, ships and equipment. The U.S. military used asbestos extensively in barracks, mess halls, engine rooms and mechanical systems from the 1930s through the 1970s. Veterans diagnosed with mesothelioma may qualify for both a legal claim and VA benefits, including monthly disability compensation and access to specialized health care.

Named installations include:

  • Corpus Christi Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi
  • Ellington Field, Houston
  • Fort Bliss, El Paso
  • Fort Cavazos (formerly Fort Hood), Killeen
  • Lackland AFB, San Antonio

Many Texas veterans don’t realize their mesothelioma diagnosis connects to their military service. Our attorneys have recovered millions for veterans diagnosed with mesothelioma and asbestos-related cancers, including a $5.5 million settlement for a Navy boiler tender and a $5.1 million settlement for a Navy machinist’s mate.

Power Plants and Utilities

Texas power plants used asbestos extensively in boilers, turbines and insulation systems throughout the mid-20th century. These facilities employed boiler tenders, electricians and maintenance mechanics who handled asbestos materials regularly. Workers at coal-fired and natural gas plants across the state faced prolonged asbestos exposure during routine maintenance and repair work, often without protective gear or safety warnings from their employers.

Named facilities include:

  • AEP Texas, statewide
  • Central Power & Light (CP&L), Nueces County (Corpus Christi), Hidalgo County (McAllen) and Victoria County (Victoria)
  • Forest Grove Steam Electric Station, Henderson County (Athens)
  • Luminant, statewide
  • Panhandle Power and Light Company, Potter County (Amarillo)
  • Sabine Power Plant, Orange County
  • Southwestern Public Service Company, Potter County (Amarillo)
  • Texas Power & Light Company, Dallas County
  • T.H. Wharton Power Plant, Harris County (Houston)
  • TXU, statewide
  • W.B. Tuttle Power Plant, Bexar County (San Antonio)

Power plant workers diagnosed with mesothelioma may have claims against both their employers and the manufacturers of asbestos-containing equipment. Our attorneys can help identify every responsible party in your case. If you worked at any of these sites, contact our Texas mesothelioma attorneys today for a free consultation.

Who Can File a Mesothelioma Claim in Texas?

If you or a loved one has a mesothelioma diagnosis, you may have grounds for a legal claim in Texas. Several groups of people qualify, including workers, veterans and family members. Here’s what you need to know.

Texas Occupations at Highest Risk of Asbestos Exposure

Many Texas workers were exposed to asbestos on the job for decades without knowing the risks. Occupations with the highest rates of asbestos exposure include:

  • Boilermakers (refinery and power plant boiler work)
  • Chemical plant operators (petrochemical facilities statewide)
  • Construction workers (commercial and residential building, 1960s-1980s)
  • Electricians (industrial and shipyard wiring work)
  • HVAC technicians (installation and maintenance of insulated systems)
  • Insulation workers (pipe and boiler insulation at refineries and plants)
  • Navy and Coast Guard personnel (engine rooms, boiler rooms and shipyard work)
  • Pipefitters (refinery and shipyard insulation work)
  • Power plant workers (boiler and turbine maintenance)
  • Railroad workers (locomotive and rail yard maintenance)
  • Refinery workers (Gulf Coast refineries and petrochemical plants)
  • Shipyard workers (Houston Ship Channel and Gulf Coast facilities)

Secondary and Household Exposure

Not everyone diagnosed with mesothelioma worked directly with asbestos. Family members of industrial workers in Texas often encountered asbestos fibers carried home on work clothes, hair and skin. This secondary exposure can cause mesothelioma just as exposure on the job can. If a family member worked at any of the Texas sites listed above and a doctor has diagnosed you with mesothelioma, you may still have grounds for a claim.

Texas Companies With Documented Asbestos Exposure

Many of the companies responsible for asbestos exposure in Texas have declared bankruptcy and established trust funds to compensate workers and their families. Named companies include:

  • Brown & Root (now KBR)
  • Combustion Engineering
  • Gulf Oil
  • Halliburton
  • Johns Manville
  • Owens Corning
  • Texaco
  • Texas Utilities (TXU)
  • Todd Shipyards
  • W.R. Grace

Asbestos diseases typically develop 20 to 60 years after exposure. If you worked for any of these companies, contact our Texas mesothelioma attorneys today for a free consultation.

Compensation for Texas Mesothelioma Victims

If you or a loved one has a mesothelioma diagnosis, understanding your compensation options is the first step toward financial stability and justice. Our Texas mesothelioma attorneys pursue every avenue available to recover the maximum compensation possible for you and your family.

Asbestos Trust Fund Claims

Many companies responsible for asbestos exposure have declared bankruptcy and established trust funds to compensate workers and their families. Major trust funds available to Texas claimants include Johns Manville, Owens Corning, W.R. Grace and Combustion Engineering. Trust fund claims don’t require a lawsuit, so payments are faster for many clients. Our attorneys rank among the top 10 national filers for asbestos trust fund claims, so we know how to navigate these funds efficiently and maximize your payout.

Personal Injury Lawsuits and Settlements

Filing a mesothelioma lawsuit in Texas lets you seek compensation for medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering and other damages. Our attorneys file cases in Harris County and Dallas County courts, depending on where your exposure occurred or where you reside. Most Texas mesothelioma cases resolve within 12 to 18 months. Meirowitz & Wasserberg prepare every case for trial to maximize your recovery and hold negligent companies accountable.

Wrongful Death Claims

If you’ve lost a loved one to mesothelioma, Texas law lets you file a wrongful death claim under the Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code, Chapter 71. Spouses, children and parents of the person who passed can file. Families can seek compensation for funeral costs, lost income and the emotional loss of their loved one. Texas sets a 2-year deadline from the date of death to file a wrongful death claim, so it’s important to act quickly.

Punitive Damages

Texas law allows punitive damages when defendants knowingly expose workers to asbestos. If a company knew about the dangers of asbestos and chose to hide that information from workers, a court can award additional damages beyond medical costs and lost income. Our attorneys pursue every available form of compensation, including punitive damages, to hold these companies fully accountable.

Economic and Non-Economic Damages

Texas mesothelioma claims can recover two categories of damages. Economic damages cover direct financial losses, including medical expenses, lost wages and future care costs. Non-economic damages cover personal losses, including pain and suffering, emotional distress and loss of consortium. Our attorneys work to document every loss so you recover full and fair compensation.

VA Benefits for Veterans

Veterans diagnosed with mesothelioma after serving at Texas military installations may qualify for VA benefits, including monthly disability compensation and access to specialized health care. Texas military bases, including Fort Cavazos, Lackland AFB and Corpus Christi Naval Air Station, have documented histories of asbestos use. The VA typically assigns a 100% disability rating to veterans diagnosed with mesothelioma, which means maximum monthly compensation. Our attorneys can help you pursue both a legal claim and VA benefits simultaneously.

How to File a Mesothelioma Claim in Texas

Filing a mesothelioma claim can feel overwhelming, but our Texas mesothelioma attorneys handle every step for you. Here’s what the process looks like from start to finish:

  • Free case evaluation: Call our team 24/7 for a free consultation. We’ll review your exposure history, medical diagnosis and legal options for free. You don’t pay anything unless we win.

  • Investigation and evidence gathering: Our attorneys gather everything to build your case, including work history documentation, exposure site records and medical records. The stronger your evidence, the stronger your claim.

  • Identify responsible parties: We identify every party responsible for your asbestos exposure, including manufacturers, employers, property owners and bankrupt companies with active trust funds. Many Texas mesothelioma cases involve multiple responsible parties.

  • File your claim: Texas mesothelioma claims follow two distinct paths that our attorneys can pursue simultaneously. First, we can file a civil lawsuit in Texas court against solvent defendants. Second, we can file trust fund claims directly with individual bankruptcy trusts. These are separate legal mechanisms, and pursuing both maximizes your total recovery.

  • Discovery and negotiation: Our attorneys gather depositions, retain expert witnesses and negotiate aggressively with defendants. Most Texas mesothelioma cases resolve through settlement without going to trial. Meirowitz & Wasserberg prepare every case for court to ensure you have maximum leverage at the negotiating table.

  • Resolution: Most Texas mesothelioma lawsuits resolve within 12 to 18 months. Trust fund claims typically resolve faster, within 3 to 6 months. Whether your case settles, goes to verdict or resolves through a trust fund payout, our attorneys fight for the maximum recovery at every stage.

Statute of Limitations for Asbestos Claims in Texas

Texas has strict deadlines for filing mesothelioma and asbestos-related lawsuits. For personal injury and wrongful death claims, you have two years from the date of your diagnosis or the loss of a loved one to file.

Missing these deadlines can permanently bar you and your family from recovering the compensation you deserve for medical expenses, lost income, and other damages. However, certain legal exceptions, such as the discovery rule, legal disability and fraudulent concealment, may sometimes extend the timeframe.

Because every situation is unique, it’s critical to speak with an experienced Texas asbestos lawyer as soon as possible. Acting quickly helps preserve important evidence, protects your legal rights, and gives you the best chance to secure the financial support your family needs.

Texas Asbestos Litigation Laws

Texas has some of the most specific asbestos litigation laws in the country. These laws affect where you can file your claim, what you must disclose and how our attorney structures your case. Understanding these laws helps you make informed decisions about your legal options.

HB 1325: Texas House Bill 1325 changed the venue rules for asbestos lawsuits. Under this law, courts must file cases in the county where the exposure occurred or where the plaintiff resides. This means your case stays closer to home and closer to the evidence. An experienced Texas mesothelioma attorney knows how to use these venue rules to your advantage.

HB 1492: Texas House Bill 1492 requires plaintiffs to disclose any asbestos trust fund claims alongside their lawsuit filings. This law affects how attorneys structure claims when pursuing both a civil lawsuit and trust fund claims simultaneously. Our attorneys understand these disclosure requirements and build every case strategy around them from day one.

SB 15: Texas calls Senate Bill 15 the “asbestos transparency bill”. It requires plaintiffs to disclose all trust fund claims to defendants during litigation. This gives defendants visibility into other sources of compensation a plaintiff pursues. An experienced attorney knows how to navigate these disclosures without undermining your overall recovery.

As of March 2026, Texas hasn’t enacted new asbestos litigation legislation beyond these three bills. These laws make experienced legal counsel essential. Our attorneys at Meirowitz & Wasserberg understand Texas asbestos litigation laws inside and out, and we build every case strategy to protect your rights and maximize your recovery.

Mesothelioma Lawyers Serving Houston, Dallas and All of Texas

Texas has one of the most complex asbestos litigation landscapes in the country. Decades of industrial work at refineries, shipyards, power plants and military bases left thousands of workers exposed to asbestos across the state. Our attorneys understand Texas’s unique industrial history and know how to build strong cases for people diagnosed with mesothelioma across every Texas county. Daniel Wasserberg holds a Texas law license and personally travels to meet clients, and our Houston office serves as our base for statewide representation.

Houston Mesothelioma Lawyer

Our Houston office is located at 2925 Richmond Ave., Suite 1275, Houston, TX 77098, putting us at the center of one of the most active asbestos litigation markets in the country. Daniel Wasserberg meets Houston-area clients in person and knows the Houston Ship Channel industrial corridor inside and out. Harris County has one of the highest mesothelioma mortality rates in Texas and our attorneys have helped thousands of Ship Channel workers and their families recover compensation.

Houston-area cases our attorneys handle include exposure at Todd Shipyards, ExxonMobil Baytown Refinery, Shell Deer Park and Brown & Root. Two of our notable settlements came directly from Houston-area cases, including a $5.4 million settlement for a journeyman pipefitter exposed at a refinery in the Houston Ship Channel and a $3.5 million settlement for a concrete laborer from Houston.

Houston filing details:

  • Cases file in Harris County District Court
  • Daniel Wasserberg holds a Texas law license and meets clients in person
  • Our Houston office serves clients across Harris County and the surrounding Gulf Coast region

Dallas Mesothelioma Lawyer

Our attorneys serve Dallas-area clients remotely, with Daniel Wasserberg traveling to meet clients across Texas when needed. Dallas-area asbestos exposure differs from Houston, with more construction and manufacturing exposure and less refinery and shipyard work. The DFW construction boom of the 1960s through the 1980s left thousands of workers exposed to asbestos in floor tiles, ceiling tiles, insulation and fireproofing products.

Dallas-specific exposure sites include the W.R. Grace vermiculite processing plant in Dallas, North Texas power plants and DFW construction sites across Dallas and Tarrant counties. Unlike general personal injury firms, our practice focuses exclusively on mesothelioma and asbestos cases, which means Dallas-area clients get attorneys who know this area of law inside and out.

Dallas filing details:

  • Cases file in Dallas County District Court
  • Our attorneys handle Dallas-area cases statewide without a local office visit requirement
  • Texas HB 1325 venue rules mean cases can file where exposure occurred or where you reside

San Antonio, Fort Worth and Statewide Coverage

Our attorneys handle mesothelioma cases in every Texas county. San Antonio has a significant military exposure history. Thousands of veterans who served at Lackland AFB and Fort Sam Houston have received mesothelioma diagnoses decades after their service. Fort Worth has a strong industrial and railroad exposure history. Our attorneys handle mesothelioma cases across every Texas region, including:

  • Beaumont and Port Arthur, Jefferson County: petrochemical exposure
  • Corpus Christi, Nueces County: naval and refinery exposure
  • Fort Worth, Tarrant County: industrial and railroad exposure
  • San Antonio, Bexar County: military base exposure (Lackland AFB, Fort Sam Houston)

Workers at rail yards and manufacturing plants regularly encountered asbestos-containing materials. Contact us today for a free consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Texas Mesothelioma Lawsuits

How much is a mesothelioma case worth in Texas?

Texas mesothelioma settlements typically range from $1 million to $5 million, depending on your diagnosis, treatment costs, lost income and suffering. Trust fund claims often pay out separately and can add hundreds of thousands to your total recovery. Every case is unique and our attorneys work to maximize every available source of compensation.

How long does a mesothelioma lawsuit take?

Most Texas mesothelioma lawsuits resolve within 12 to 18 months. Trust fund claims typically resolve faster, within 3 to 6 months. Complex cases that go to trial can take longer, sometimes two years or more.

Can I file a lawsuit if my loved one died from mesothelioma?

Yes. Texas law lets families file wrongful death lawsuits under the Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code, Chapter 71. Spouses, children and parents of the person who passed can file. Families can seek compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, lost income and loss of companionship.

Do I need to go to court to win compensation?

Most Texas mesothelioma cases settle out of court. Our attorneys negotiate aggressively to reach the strongest settlement possible. If a defendant won’t offer fair compensation, our attorneys don’t hesitate to take the case to trial.

What is the statute of limitations for mesothelioma in Texas?

Texas sets a 2-year deadline to file a mesothelioma claim under the Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code, Section 16.003. The clock starts from the date of your diagnosis or the date of a loved one’s death. Every situation is different, so don’t wait to get legal advice.

What percentage do mesothelioma lawyers charge?

Mesothelioma attorneys work on a contingency fee basis, which means you don’t pay anything unless we win your case. Our fee comes as a percentage of your settlement or verdict. You don’t pay any upfront costs, retainer fees or out-of-pocket expenses.

What's the difference between a mesothelioma lawsuit and a trust fund claim?

A mesothelioma lawsuit is a civil action your attorney files in Texas court against solvent defendants. A trust fund claim is an administrative filing your attorney submits directly to a bankruptcy trust that a company responsible for your asbestos exposure established.
